Associate professor.
Giorgio Fumera received the M.Sc. degree in Electronic Eng., with honours, and the Ph.D. degree in Electronic Eng. and Computer Science, respectively in 1997 and 2002, from the University of Cagliari, Italy. Since February 2011 he is associate professor of Computer Engineering at the Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Eng. of the University of Cagliari.
His research interests are related to methodologies and applications of statistical pattern recognition. His main research topics are classification reliability, multiple classifier systems and adversarial machine learning, with applications to text and image categorization, and computer vision for intelligent video surveillance. On these topics he published one hundred papers on international journals and conference proceedings, and five book chapters (see also his Google Scholar profile).
G. Fumera teaches courses on fundamentals of computer science for the B.Sc. programs on Civil and Environmental Engineering, and a course on Artificial Intelligence for the M.Sc. programs on Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence and on Electronic Engineering. He is also a member of the PhD Program in Electronic and Computer Engineering.
G. Fumera is associate editor of the Pattern Recognition journal, of the Pattern Analysis and Applications journal, and of Intelligenza Artificiale, the official journal of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA). He regularly acts as reviewer for several international journals in the pattern recognition and related fields, and is a member of the program committee of several international conferences. He has been co-chair of the 7th Int. Conf. on Image Processing Theory, Tools and Applications (IPTA 2017).
G. Fumera is a member of the IEEE, the IAPR, and of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA).
