The Laboratory, in collaboration with the PRA group of Electrical and Electronic Department of the University of Cagliari, is engaged in research in the field of automatic classification of documents in electronic format (Document Categorization), and in particular in the following topics :

•  Document Categorization using reject option
•  Improved reliability of Document Categorization systems using the rejection option;
•  Spam Filtering
•  Application of Text Categorization techniques, Pattern Recognition and Computer Vision to spam filtering, especially as regards the spam email where the message is inserted in an attached image (Image spam).

Among the applications of this type of technology we can mention:

•  Email (anti-spam filtering, automatic archiving, etc.).
•  Web (Parental Control, search engines, etc.).
•  Multimedia Documents (Document Organization, formatting the content according to display device, etc.).
